Dubious Luxury Brand

“The grouch and the brainstorm were not for us. They may be the dubious luxury of normal men, but for alcoholics these things are poison.”

This simple phrase and a group of men that saved my life inspired me on my creative journey to start to make again for the first time in years. The imagery of the dubious luxury that is alcohol kept bouncing around in my head unable to escape. With the push of my fellows, I reached out to my tattoo artist to help draw what was stuck in my head and she delivered! Kyra Monterrosa (@kyramonterrosa on IG) a super talented tattoo artist out of San Francisco and a person I am lucky enough to call a friend, was able to bring this to life.

From there, it was off to the races. I created stickers which keen eyes can find throughout the city of LA. Stickering helped open my eyes to the underground world of art that is hiding in plain sight. On bus stop and light poles, small little footprints of artists can be tracked throughout the city which makes for a wonderful game!

Wanting to continue to push myself, I began to get interested in how someone goes from idea to a physical piece of clothing. Talking to folks, researching online and wandering the fashion district led me to creating a few custom pieces. Sourcing some blanks from Los Angeles appeal and working with a local screen printer, I brought what was once only in my head into the real world to give and share with friends.
